(P 53) Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Friends held 9th month 19th 1863.

The representatives which were appointed at last meeting to attend the Quarterly Meeting reported that they all attended but one.

A minute was received from the Quarterly Meeting recommending the Monthly and Preparative Meetings to open voluntary subscriptions to raise money for the support of schools for colored persons. Calvin Barnard and Samuel Holaday are appointed to solicit subscription for that purpose and they are directed to report to this Meeting in the eleventh month next.

A minute was received from the Quarterly Meeting directing the Monthlys to raise the sum of ten dollars for Quarterly Meeting stock. Samuel Holaday and James M. Dunbar are appointed to receive $1.50, our quota thereof, and produce it to this Meeting in the eleventh month next.

A communication was received from Vermillion Monthly Meeting of Friends, Illinois, informing this Meeting that they had visited Abraham Holaday to good satisfaction which is satisfactory to this Meeting and he is continued in membership with us.

Richard Mendenhall and James M. Dunbar are appointed to prepare a certificate of removal for Abraham Holaday to Vermillion Monthly Meeting and produce it to next meeting.

The meeting then concluded.

(P 54) Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Friends held 10th month 17th 1863.

The committee which was appointed at last meeting to prepare a certificate of removal for Abraham Holaday produced one which was approved and signed.

The subject of appointing Clerks for the ensuing year being considered, the present clerks were continued.

The meeting then concluded.

Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Friends held 11th month 21st 1863.

The following named Friends were appointed our representatives to attend the Quarterly Meeting and they are directed to report to next meeting: Calvin Barnard, Richard Mendenhall and Samuel Holaday.

The following named Friends were appointed to attend to the settling and selecting the Quarterly Meeting, and they are directed to report to next meeting: Lewis Jones and Samuel Holaday.

The committee which was appointed in the 9th month last to solicit subscriptions for the support of schools for colored persons report that the way did not seem to open for raising anything at present.

(P 55) The committee which was appointed in the 9th month last to receive $1.50, our quota of Quarterly Meeting stock report that the amount is ready and this Meeting directs it forwarded to the Quarterly Meeting by the hands of Richard Mendenhall who is required to report to next meeting.

Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Friends held 12th month 19th 1863.

The representatives who were appointed at last meeting to attend our last Quarterly Meeting report that they all attended and they produced 59 copies of the minutes of our last Yearly Meeting, 40 copies of the London General Epistle and 50 copies of an addrefs to Friends by Francis W. Thomas, all of which are directed to be distributed among our members.

The minutes of our last Yearly Meeting on the state of society and the London General Epistle were read in this meeting.

The Friends appointed at last meeting to attend to the settling and selecting the Quarterly Meeting report that they attended to their appointment.

Richard Mendenhall informs the Meeting that he forwarded our quota of Quarterly Meeting stock as directed by last meeting.

A minute was received from our last Quarterly Meeting from which it appears that the Monthly Meetings are directed to raise the sum of $9 for Yearly Meeting stock.

(P 56) Samuel Holaday and Thomas N. Jones are appointed to receive $1.35, our quota thereof, and produce it to this Meeting in the fifth month next.

A minute was received from the Quarterly Meeting from which it appears that the Monthly Meetings are directed to raise the sum of $16.90 to make up a deficiency in the Iowa Whites Institute. Samuel Holaday and Thomas N. Jones are appointed to receive $2.53, our quota thereof, and produce it to this Meeting in the fifth month next.

A minute was received from our last Quarterly Meeting from which it appears that the Monthly Meetings are directed to raise the sum of $75 to aid Friends of Iowa Yearly Meeting in building a Yearly Meeting house. Samuel Holaday and Thomas N. Jones are appointed to receive $11.25, our quota, and produce it to this Meeting in the fifth month next.

The minute of our last Yearly Meeting in regard to the freedmen of color was read and the following named Friends appointed a committee on that subject as directed by the Yearly Meeting: Samuel Holaday, Thomas N. Jones, Thomas C. Dunbar.

The meeting then concluded.
