(P 317) The committee appointed to bring forward the names of suitable Friends to serve this Meeting as clerks for the ensuing year propose the names of Thomas B. Winslow and Ellen R. Winslow which was satisfactory to this Meeting and they are appointed accordingly.

It appears from the request of Eli Henderson, Sarah L. Henderson and others that it is necessary for the advancement of truth to establish an ____ Meeting for worship on the second and fourth first days of each month in Edgewood neighborhood, Bates County, Missouri. After a time of deliberation, this Meeting unites in the request and the following named Friends are appointed to have the care and oversight of said Meeting the ensuing year and report quarterly: Eli Henderson, Sarah L. Henderson, Charles N. Averill, James J. Cromley, Susanna Hocket, Samuel G. Edwards and Lewis C. white.

It appears that the following named persons request to be joined in membership with Friends: James J. Cromley, Esther Cromley, Austin Hatcher, Irena Hatcher, Charles H. Gage, Mary H. Evans and Samuel Cutshaw. After a time of deliberation, they were received into membership with us and Norman C. Averill, Martha E. Averill, Thomas W. McDaniel, and Harriet J. Grewell are appointed to visit them for their help and encouragement and inform them of the action of this Meeting and report in 3rd month.

Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Friends held 2nd month 16th 1884.

Our beloved Friends Wm. F. Harvey acceptably attended this Meeting with approved credentials from Lawrence Monthly Meeting. The clerk is directed to send a minute of attendance to Lawrence Meeting which is attended to.

The following answers to the 1st, 2nd, and 8th queries were read in this meeting.

1st Ans. - All our meetings for worship and discipline have been attended. Unbecoming behavior mostly avoided. The hour of meeting nearly observed.

2nd Ans. - Friends are mostly preserved in Christian love one toward another. Talebearing and detraction discouraged but not altogether avoided. Endeavors are used to end differences when any appear.

8th Ans. - Care is taken when queried after.

(P 319) And they are directed to be forwarded to the ensuing Quarterly Meeting held at Hesper by Reuben Davis, Louisa E. Updegraff, Henry Grewell and Matilda Steward whom we appoint as our representatives. They are directed to report to next meeting whatever is given them in charge.

The nominating committee appointed at last meeting propose the following to constitute the evangelistic committee: Eli Henderson, Lucinda Henderson, Norma C. Averill, Matilda Steward, Lewis C. White and Louisa Updegraff with which this Meeting unites and they are appointed accordingly and directed to report in 2nd month next.

Also the following names to constitute a committee on temperance: Warner Burks, Marilda McDaniel, Lewis C. White, Louisa E. Updegraff, Henry Grewell, Ellen Bones, Elizabeth Burks, Sarah Bones and Susan Bones. They are directed to report in 2nd month next.

Also the following names to constitute a committee on education: James Crumly, Esther Crumly, John S. Steward, Harriett Grewell, Thomas W. McDaniel, Ella Winslow, Reuben Davis, and Lewis C. White. They are directed to report in 2nd month next.

Quincy M. Averill, being requested to be joined in membership with Friends, the following committee is appointed to visit him on account of his request:

By an extract from the minutes of the Preparative Meeting, it appears that the following named persons request to be joined in membership with Friends: Franklin Cook, Elizabeth Cook, Isaac Lantz, Mary Lantz, William McCain, Elizabeth McCain and their minor children--James Frank, William Arthur, Henry Guy, John Warren, Mary Edith, Loyd Clark.

The following committee is appointed to visit them on account of their request and report to next meeting: Lydia Arnold, Sarah Bones, Norma C. Averill, Henry D. Grewell and Harriett Grewell.

The Friends living at Lane request that a Meeting be held there on the 1st and 3rd Sabbath in each month to be under the care of the Monthly Meeting. After a time of deliberation thereon, the following committee--Matilda Steward, Lydia Arnold, Isaac Arnold, John Steward, Louisa E. Updegraff and Norman C. Averill--are appoionted to have the care and oversight of the Meeting and are directed to report quarterly during the ensuing year.

The following named Friends--Lewis C. White, Joseph Bones, Thomas B. Winslow, Annie Averill and Matilda Steward--are appointed to assist the treasurer in collecting the Yearly Meeting stock and are directed to report in 5th month next.

The representatives appointed at last meeting to attend the ensuing Quarterly Meeting to be held at Hesper report none of them attended. Reasonable excuses were given for their absence.

The committee appointed to visit James Crumly, Esther Crumly and others living in Edgewood neighborhood, Missouri, report not attended to. They are continued and directed to report to next meeting.

The committee appointed to visit Quincy M. Averill on account of his request to be joined in membership with Friends are not prepared to make a full report. They are released and a new committee appointed. Thomas Melton, John B. Gluyas and Eli Henderson are appointed to visit Q. M. Averill on account of his request and directed to report to next meeting.

The committee appointed at last meeting to visit Franklin Cook, Elizabeth Cook, Isaac Lantz, Mary Lantz, William McCain, Elizabeth McCain and their minor children--James Frank, William Arthur, Henry Guy, John Warren, Mary Edith and Loyd Clark McCain--on account of their request to be joined in membership with Friends, report they have attended to their appointment which is satisfactory to the Meeting and they are received into membership with us.

The committee appointed to visit Q. M. Averill in regard to his request for membership report that they attended to their appointment to good satisfaction and that they find nothing to hinder him from being joined into membership and he was accepted.

The clerk appointed ____ ____, J. D. Grewell, John B. Glyuas and Thomas W. McDaniel to assist Joseph Bones and Charles Averill in working out trouble existing between them in regard to partition fence and report to next meeting.

White, David Davis, Harriet Grewell and Ann White whom we appoint as representatives and they are directed to report to next meeting.

Warner D. Burks, C. N. Averill, R. Davis, Thomas Winslow, Louisa Updegraff, Susan Bones, Ella Winslow and Rebecca Averill were appointed as caretakers to attend the Quarterly Meeting and directed to report to next meeting.

The committee appointed to vist James Crumly and others living in Edgewood neighborhood report not attended to. They are are continued and directed to report when ready.

(P 136) Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Friends held 6th month 21st 1884.

Men's clerk being absent, John Steward was appointed clerk for the day.

The representatives appointed at last meeting to attend the ensuing Quarterly Meeting report they all attended and there were several copies of the Discipline put in their hands for distribution.

The caretakers appointed to attend the Quarterly Meeting report they all attended.

The committee continued at last meeting to measure and stake off the partition fence between C. Averill and J. Bones report it has been attended to.

Norman C. Averill, Martha E. Averill, Bethel P. Averill, Mary E. Averill and Rebecca D. Averill have this day requested in writing that their rights of membership and relation with this Church thereby cease which this meeting grants. Thomas McDaniel and Elizabeth Burks are appointed to inform them of this Meeting's decision and report to next meeting.

Henry D. Grewell, Mary Beals, Lewis White, Elizabeth Burks and Warner Burks are appointed to present to next meeting the names of suitable friends to act as overseers and report to next meeting.

Lewis C. White, Thomas McDaniel, Louisa Updegraff, Zephaniah Bones, Sarah Bones and Joseph Bones are appointed to seat the Meeting and report to next meeting.

The clerks being absent, John Steward and Louisa Updegraff were appointed for the day.

The committee appointed to inform Norman C. Averill of this Meeting's decision report partly accomplished. They are continued and directed to report to next meeting.

The committee appointed to propose names for overseers report the names of Lewis C. White, Henry Grewell, Elizabeth Burks, Louisa E. Updegraff and Sarah L. Henderson who are appointed to that service.

The committee appointed to seat this Meeting are continued for further service.

Louisa E. Updegraff and Matilda Steward are appointed to visit Anna M. Averill in regard to her resignation and are directed to report to next meeting.

Charles N. Averill reports on behalf of the committee to attend the Meeting in Bates Co., Missouri, that the Meeting and Sunday School are in a flourishing condition.

Samuel Edwards is appointed assistant Librarian.

Henry Grewell, Louisa E. Updegraff and John B. Gluyas are added to the committee to visit the members in Bates Co., Missouri.

Our beloved Friend Benjamin B. Hiatt, a minister of the gospel, acceptably attended this meeting with a minute of concurrence from Stuart Monthly Meeting, Iowa.

(P 138) Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Friends held 8th month 16th 1884.

The Women's clerk being absent, Matilda Steward was appointed clerk for the day.

The committee continued at last meeting in case of N. C. Averill and family have attended to the appointment.

The Friends appointed to visit Anna M. Averill report that they visited her to good satisfaction and she withdrew her resignation.

The committee appointed to seat the Meeting, not being ready to report, are continued and directed to report to next meeting.

The committee appointed to visit the Friends in Bates Co., Missouri, for their help and encouragement report that they have attended to the appointment.

The committee to have the care of the Meeting at Lane report that they have concluded to discontinue that Meeting, feeling that it is to the Glory of God so to do, with which this Meeting is united and the committee is released.

The queries addressed to this meeting were read with answers thereto as directed. Elizabeth Burks, Thomas Winslow, Samuel Edwards, Thomas Weldon and Louisa E. Updegraff are appointed to attend the Quarterly Meeting as representatives and report to next meeting.

1st Answer: Meetings for worship and discipline are regularly held, but not as well attended as would be best, tolerably punctual.

2nd Answer: The love of Christ is manifest on the part of most Friends in their intercourse among but that love is not as much manifest on the part of all as is desirable. Friends have the watchful care over their children (as queried after) to some extent, but more of that care would be best.

The representative appointed at last meeting to attend the Quarterly Meeting report they all attended except one for whose absence a reasonable excuse was given.

The committee appointed to prepare a statistical report for this meeting report they prepared one and forwarded the same to the Quarterly Meeting. They are directed to forward a copy to the clerk.

The committee appointed to propose to this Meeting the name of a Friend to serve as recorder are not ready to make a full report.

Martha E. Newby, a minister of the Gospel acceptably attended this Meeting with a minute of concurrence from Tonganoxie Monthly Meeting of Friends.

A certificate of membership was received, read and accepted for Ahijah Bond and Sarah Jane his wife with their minor children, Samuel S., John C. and George W. Bond, from Siloam Monthly Meeting of Friends, Arkansas.

Barclay Hampton, a minister of the Gospel, attended this Meeting with a minute of concurrence from Hubbard Monthly Meeting, Hardin Co., Iowa. His labors are satisfactory and encouraging to this Meeting.

Alexander M. Martin, a member of Hubbard Monthly Meeting and companion of Barclay Hampton, acceptably attended this Meeting with approved credentials from Hubbard Monthly Meeting, Iowa.

Malinda B. Hunt, a minister of the Gospel, acceptably attended this Meeting with approved credentials from Hubbard Monthly Meeting, Iowa.

The committee appointed to visit George Givens and family and also to consider the interest of the church in that place are not ready to make a full report. They are continued and directed to report in 11th month next.

The committee appointed to inform John Roberts and family that they are received into membership with Friends report not attended to. They are continued and directed to report to next meeting.

The committee appointed to inform David J. Givens that this Meeting receives him as a member report not attended to. They are continued and directed to report to next meeting.

The committee appointed to secure someone to have the care of this house, build fires, etc. report that A. Burks will take it at $1.00 per month (or 6 months for $6.00). The meeting raised $4.00 and the committee is continued and directed to raise $2.00 more and report in 1st month.

George Givens requests that his right of membership with Friends should cease. This Meeting is united in granting his request and appoints Ahijah Bond and Reuben Davis to inform him of this Meeting's decision and report to next meeting.
