The committee appointed in 1st month last year to produce a certificate for Silas Cook and family now produce one for Sarah his wife and minor sons Alistus L. and Enos which was read, approved and signed.

Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Women Friends held 2nd month 17th 1877.

The 1st, 2nd, and 8th queries with answers thereto were read in this meeting, a copy which is directed to be forwarded to the ensuing Quarterly Meeting by Mary Bales (Beals), Lydia Arnold and Elizabeth Burks whom we appoint our representatives and they are directed to report to next meeting what may be given them in charge by the Quarter.

1st Ans. - Two of our meetings lost on account of inclement weather. Unbecoming (behavior) avoided. The hour of meeting nearly observed.

2nd - Friends are preserved in Christian love as far as appears. No differences amongst us we know of.

8th - No complaint coming under the heads of that query.

(P 90) Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Women Friends held 3rd month 17th 1877.

The Friends appointed to attend the Quarterly Meeting as representatives report two of them attended and the epistles from our sister Yearly Meetings were given in charge.

The Friends appointed to produce a book and assist the clerk in copying the back minutes report it has been complied with.

The clerk, expecting to remove out of our limits, Sarah Henley and Sarah J. Bowen are appointed to produce to next meeting the name of a suitable Friend to fill that station.

Read an epistle from London Yearly Meeting which was strengthening to us.

The Friends appointed in regard to the clerk not being ready to report are continued to next meeting.

Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Women Friends held 5th month 19th 1877. The clerk being absent, Sarah Henley was appointed clerk for the day.

(P 91) The queries addressed to this Meeting were read with answers to them in writing, a copy of which is directed to the Quarterly Meeting in the hands of Sarah Henley and Lydia Davis who are appointed our representatives and they are directed to report to next meeting.

Lucy E. Burks and Elizabeth Terrell are appointed caretakers to the Quarterly Meeting and (are to) report to next meeting.

The committee appointed at last meeting in case of clerk propose Sarah P. Bone for clerk who (the meeting) being united with is appointed to that service.

1st Answer - All the meetings for worship and discipline have been attended except one which was on account of the old house being torn down and the new one not finished. Unbecoming behavior avoided. The hour of meeting nearly observed.

2nd - Friends are generally preserved in a pretty good degree of Christian love one towards another. Talebearing and detraction discouraged. No differences amongst us.

8th - Endeavors are used to comply with the requisitions of discipline.

(P 92) Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Women Friends held 7th month 21st 1877.

 

As there is no standing committee in this Monthly Meeting, the following named Friends are appointed as a committee to forward all necessary statistics as is required by the Yearly Meeting and report to next meeting, also to assist the recorder and propose to next meeting the name of a Friend to serve as recorder next year: Solomon Edwards, L. White, John Terrell, Elizabeth Burks, Ann White, Mary Bales, L. M. Stanley.

Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Women Friends held 9th month the 15th 1877.

Our beloved Friend Catherine Hammer, a minister of the gospel, acceptably attended this Meeting and produced a minute of unity and concurrence from Cottonwood Monthly Meeting of Friends bearing date of 7th month the 7th 1877. Her company and gospel labors have been satisfactory and edifying.

An epistle from Western Yearly Meeting of Women Friends was read to our satisfaction and encouragement. Also one from Canada Yearly Meeting of Women Friends which was satisfactory and edifying to us.

Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Women Friends held 10th month the 20th 1877.

The Friends appointed 8th month last to attend the Quarterly Meeting as representatives report only one of them attended and there was nothing given them for this meeting.

Our beloved Friend Nathan Morris, a minister of the gospel, acceptably attended this Meeting whose company and gospel labors have been satisfactory and edifying.

Elizabeth Beals, a member, acceptably attended this meeting whose company and gospel labor have been satisfactory and strengthening to us.

Mary Beals, Elizabeth Burks, Rachel Stanley and Sarah Henley are appointed in conjunction with a like committee of Men Friends as a committee on general meeting and missionary work and cooperate with the missionary board of the Yearly Meeting.

2nd Ans. - As far as appears Friends are preserved in a fairly good degree of Christian love one toward another. Talebearing and detraction discouraged and nearly avoided. No differences amongst us that we know of.

3rd Ans. - Friends generally endeavor by example and precept to educate their children and those under their care in the principles of the Christian religion. But little regard paid by some Friends for plainness (of speech). Pernicious reading and corrupt conversation discouraged. They are encouraged to read the Holy Scriptures.

4th Ans. - Friends are clear of importing, distilling, and the unnecessary use of all intoxicating liquors. Attending places of diversion, not altogether clear. A pretty good degree of moderation and temperance claimed.

5th Ans. - No poor amongst us requiring aid that we know of.

6th Ans. - We believe most Friends bear a testimony against priests' and ministers' wages, against slavery, bearing arms and military service, trading in goods taken in war and against lotteries.

7th Ans. - We believe Friends are generally careful to live within the bounds of their circumstances or involving themselves in business beyond their ability to manage or in hazardous or speculative trading. They are fair in their dealings and punctual in complying with the contracts and engagements and in paying their debts seasonably.

8th Ans. - Care is taken to deal with offenders queried after.

Rebecca Averill, Mary Bales and Mary Wasson are appointed to attend the Quarterly Meeting as representatives. They are directed to report to next meeting of their attendance and what may be given them for this meeting.

We are informed of this Meeting that the following named persons have requested to be joined into membership with Friends. After a time of deliberation, those on the Meeting are agreed to receive them without further action: Joseph Bones, Susan Bones, Bethel Averill, Mary E. Averill, James A. Burks, Warner D. Burks, William H. Wilson, Hannah Wilson, Susannah Davis and Thomas McDaniel.

The Friends appointed to attend the Quarterly Meeting as representatives report that none of them attended.

The Preparative Meeting informs this Meeting that Cynthia A. Meadows, formerly Holaday, has accomplished her marriage contrary to discipline. Mary Bales (Beals) and Sarah Henley are appointed to visit her on the account thereof and report to next meeting.
